Greetings! I thought I'd share a photo of a trio of our Dorkings. They've still got a ways to go, but they're certainly improving in type. It's been a pleasure to work with a foundational heritage breed with so much history behind it. I thought that members of this thread might find them interesting.

Actually Bob, I am getting some thanks to you posting pictures months ago of some of Matt's birds. I also didn't know about the german line of nh until those pictures and have to have some of those too. I remember a year or so ago you asked if anyone had aquired any of the Ramey line of rir's from S.C., if you go to post 762 on the heritage rir thread, you can see a cockeral I hatched out 7 or 8 months ago. Thanks for the pictures and breeding tips.

Those are some nice dorkings. Could you do me a favor and send a message to the lady in Califorinia who wanted the Silver Gray Dorkings that Tim Bowles a judge in Lucasville Ohio has a good line. This may help her. bob

Billy, that is one of my breeding Cockerels that Bob posted the picture of above. He is growing out pretty nicely. Here is a picture of one of my other breeding Cockerels.

From where I see it, I only see a tail a bit too high and that's all, but, pictures don't tell everything. (weight, body under feathers, etc)

Thanks, Illia, I agree. The tails are still a bit too high in general. Also, I need more width of feather in the tails and more length in the body....and....and.... At least with rare breeds it's hard to get bored or too complacent!

I figure each year they advance. In general, I am more pleased with the pullets than I am with cockerels from the 2011 breedings. The trio pictured above has some promise. I hoping that they lead the program this year.

Maybe it's my moniter but I can hardly even see the feather width/length/quality here.

Many have contacted me about how to get Poutlry Press to see many of the advertisers who also advertise on this site and to see pictrues of the rare breeds that are shown at the shows. If the person showing and who wins does not advertise his or her bird will not be in the issue of that show. It gives you a idea what is out there and then you can call the person up to see how you can get some of thier birds. Do not bom bard these people with I want two dozzen eggs. They will not take you seriously and brush you off. Most of them are breeders and not egg sellers. If you dont know it by now the chances of getting your moneys worth of chicks from eggs from these people are very very low. You might talk them into sending you say five to ten started chicks overnight express mail you send them the box or they might have a box. Most of these people work and dont have time to fool with eggs or chicks. That is why we have the hatchery folks to do this for us. Most of the time you have to go to thier homes or have them bring a trio to a show near you they attend or have them ship the birds live to your post office. Also, thier is a APA and ABA web site that has the judges names on them and sometimes the judges have thier phone numbers by thier names. A lot of these judges have good birds and they will ship to you not eggs only maybe five percent will do this. This news paper will also give you a list of the shows all over the USA then you can say ok family we are taking a road trip to this show on that weekend and see all the birds and pick up some birds. Once in a while a breeder will put two or three dozen eggs on the floor of the car on a pillow and sell these to you. Your chances then are so much higher than going through the post office. One year a fellow drove from Pennsavania to New York State four hundred miles one way to pick up four dozzen Coloubian Rock Large Fowl eggs. he hatched 37 expensivve cost in gas but he wanted these eggs. Hope this helps you. You will enjoy reading this newspaper then you can ask questions on this thread on the breeds you want to locate. A note some of these breeds are very run down and dont look like the pretty paintings you see in the catalogs. Some breeds are down right impossable for even the very experienced breeder to breed that is why they are rare they never did breed true to breed. bob
