Border Collie Appreciation Thread!!!!

This is my boy, Sam (Samson, Samsonite (from Dumb and Dumber.)
He's the sweetest, but he can also be a turd (moody, lol). He's always been great with our other animals. I have had quail and rabbit escapees and he helps me catch them (nicely.)
He's trained all of our chickens (or most since we have some new ones now) to stay off the porch.

He's been kinda salty at me since I haven't been able to take him running in awhile, but this was taken a few minutes ago, he's still letting me use him as a foot rest.

I forgot to add, he's a Border Collie, Beagle mix!

I’ve seen some “lazier” for lack of better word ones that have an excellent off switch and are super chill in the home so I suppose it’s possible LOL just have to find the right one and the right lines and the right breeder. They’re not supposed to be “on” all the time technically even the working line ones. The super wired, hyper, neurotic, “on” all the time ones are just as incorrect as the lazy, zero working drive ones are. Technically speaking. Because back in the day, they were supposed to be able to herd all day and then come inside at the end of the day and be a companion for the shepherd and relax at their feet or in front of the fire or whatever.

The one we had was definitely from working lines. She was never hyper, but always kept busy until bedtime. She was so smart. We got her at 5 months of age, and she was house broke immediately. I've been contemplating another aussie. Started thinking about our border. She was definitely smaller with less coat. She was 35-40 pounds. Miss her. She was a great dog. I used to teach her toys names and she would fetch the one I asked for. She had quite a vocabulary, and was easy to travel everywhere with.

I have some time to think about it. I had ruled them out due to watching agility on tv, but I think that's where all the crazy ones end up.

Yup!!!! I’ve read that a lot (but not all) of the sporting line ones are neurotic and psycho lol they encourage it cause it makes them fast and good at agility if they’re super excited and amped up for it LOL but trouble is, they don’t know how to be UN amped up and calm down. True working line ones or even a good show line one would be a lot calmer LOL

We had a wonderful Border Collie named Kelly. She never barked she made herself understood by her intense stare. She was all business....

When our farm was in Upstate NY we were at a cattle sale, they were selling a litter of Border Collie pups. We came home with a female and when the time was right we had her spayed. She lived with us for almost 13 years....

Once while we were at the weekly cattle sale one of our Holstein Bulls decided to go for a walk after jumping through a barn window. In NY it's illegal for a bull over 6 months to be out of a barn. We had been at the sale most of the day buying heifers. We were shocked to see Kelly had cornered the 500,lb+ bull along the fence line. The grass was tore up and poor Kelly was exhausted! We opened the barn door and she escorted the tired bull back to his pen. Then Kelly gave us a dirty look as if to say, "ABOUT TIME YOU SHOWED UP"....

Our last dog was a working Great Pyrenees named Freddy. He protected our weaned Goat kids. He would be dozing under a tree and there would be over 50 kids curled up next to him.

My friend has a VERY energetic pup probably 6-7 months old now he is a red merle named Humphrey he is so cute, she is training him for dock diving since we live 10 minutes away from a lake
