I have a borotto real 49. My last hatch (ducks) 42 made it to lockdown and 18 hatched. I’m not sure what happened, the temp and humidity were consistent. Someone said maybe the temp was too low.
I set two calibrated thermometers in there and turned it on for a day. Depending on where I set the thermometers they were 98.8-99.7 when the incubator was set at 100.5. When I incubate eggs starting Saturday, do I keep it set that high? And then rotate the eggs around to avoid an inconsistent hatch? My last batch did hatch on time. So I’m questioning the need for upping the temp, but also really want a better success rate.

Hi! I actually haven’t tried to move my thermometer around in my Borotto so it is possible mine is the same. I know in just the one spot my Govee hydrometer says it cycles between 99.3-98.7.
I am incline to think it is ok if your last set hatched on time.

I actually have two borotto incubators, one the temperature is set at 99.5 and is pretty right on, while my other I have to increase to 100.3 to get it to the right temperature. Right now the smaller incubator is not liking the increase in humidity so is struggling to keep the temperature up.

Thanks. I’m new to hatching and was really hoping for a higher hatch rate with an expensive incubator. With my styrofoam one I got 3 out of 20some eggs that made it to lockdown. Started with 42 that time. With my Borotto I got 18 out of 42 that made it to lockdown after starting 49. But I think the turner broke fairly early on and I didn’t start hand turning soon enough. So that could be why. I’m awaiting the new motor, so I’ll be hand turning for now. I started 27 duck eggs this morning and will add 24 chicken eggs next weekend (I’m assuming some will be infertile since they were shipped). I’m hoping for 20+ chicks and at least 16 ducklings…. Maybe that’s bit of high expectations for shipped eggs though 😁.

Ah yes the turner could also be the issue. I think it all depends where you get the eggs from and their packing. I had 12 call duck eggs and I have 10 of them looking great going into lockdown. They went from Nova Scotia to me in Saskatchewan. So a far trek for sure…
For me I had them sit still for 24 hours (large side up) and then they didn’t get turned till day 3 not sure if that helped settle the air pocket.

I had 15 shipped from about 2 hours away (I know I know I could have picked them up). 6 hatched. The rest were from my ducks. I did turn them after one day… maybe I’ll wait a few more days with this batch. I do rest them 24 hours before setting.
