Brackets for attaching a 2x4 to a 4x4

Now here’s another question, Can i use these under t1-11 siding for the roof rafter without cutting a bird mouth in the rafter to fit over the 4” piece..? if that makes sense. I have no idea how to cut the birds mouth

It's better not to use a birds mouth, that way you have a better gap at the soffit for ventilation.....and the brackets make birds mouth unnecessary.

I would birds mouth and leave the brackets at the store. Just attach a hurricane tie to deal with uplift forces.

What is the real advantage structurally to using birds mouths vs brackets?

We did a bird mouth on the other coop, It came out okay but it’s not exactly flat against the top 2x4s. And it took us literally forever to get the roof done because of the angles and stuff lol. But then again it was our first time making a birds mouth and a roof like that.

I would like to try again but if those brackets will leave a more open gap then we might not
