Hello. I lived in Altadena ca and had to have my 7 chickens sent to a sanctuary. One of my girls got her middle toe stuck. The sanctuary owner wrapped it up. I drove three hours each way to take her to the vet. They gave her antibiotics, pain meds and ointment for the small cut. They believe that the middle toe is fractured but bc of the fires I couldn’t afford X-rays. The sanctuary owner has splinted it but says it doesn’t seem to be fusing. The color/ cut is much better. It has only been about 3 days, but I’m concerned about the break/ fracture. Does anyone have experience with a broken chicken toe? Does it tend to be okay even if not healed correctly?

It may heal. Or the chicken may lose it. It may dry out and fall off at the place where it is broken. What you don't want to have happen is any bone be sticking out of the wound. If you chicken loses the toe she will be just fine. Many chickens walk around with less toes than they were born with and live long and happy lives. Frostbite is a common cause of toe loss. You might search on here for other folks having a broken toe and how it healed for them.

I don't know the answer for your particular situation but figured I could get your post back on the recent activity list.
