My Rhode Island Red is broody and we are wanting her to hatch out some eggs. She is the top hen so we aren’t worried about anybody bullying her or pulling her out of her box that she is in. There are plenty other boxes for the other girls to lay. Is it ok to keep her in there? I would rather not have to pull her out and isolate her from the flock.

I am pretty new to brooding myself having only just experiencing it myself. I just had a hen go broody and I wish I had moved her sooner. My issue is that I kept having other hens lay eggs in her nest and even with trying to mark them, it got complicated. Also, when she went to go quickly eat her fast meal for the day, I guess she had a chick inside the nesting box and another hen got a hold of it while she was off the best. I felt awful. All could have been avoided if I had separated her before hatch like I knew I should have. Hope my mistakes are of some help. I've heard other people who don't intervene at all and it goes perfectly. Just didn't go that way for me. Best of Luck!
