I was looking for something in the barn the other day and found a Brower model 1680-2 brooder in the loft. Today I plugged it in and it works! But now I have questions, What kind of light bulb should I put in it? It has a heater so I assume I don't need a heat lamp. Second: what is the curtain for? And finally one of the roof panels is insulated, does this go in the front or the back?

Thanks for any assistance!

I've never seen one like that. I would guess the heated end is the enclosed part behind the curtain. Probably just there to keep the heat in on the one end. I would turn it on for a few hours and make sure it keeps the temperature correctly before actually putting chicks in it.

Brower may not make this model anymore but the company still exists. I'd suggest contacting them and requesting a manual. You never know, they might have one. I did a quick search and Sears sells a few parts for it as well as having a diagram that might be helpful. And yes, the curtain is to limit the heat to one side.

The insulated end goes to the back where the heater is. I just bought one.

For the light bulb, you will want to get one like this:

Cutler supply has them in white and red, for $1.80ea.
Sometimes you can find them at Wally World too! TSC might have them or Lowe's and HomeDepot. They are 5w bulbs.
