Buff Orpington Chickens are naturally calm birds. But if/and when these birds are put with other breeds they are typically at the bottom of the pecking order. Meaning they are picked on. Most of the time mixing flocks can be a very good thing to do. There are many cases in which it is beneficial whether you want to experiment or want a lot more eggs and maybe different types/color of eggs. Buff Orpington chickens best get along with Sussex, Cochins, Brahmas, and Favorolles. These breeds of Chickens are best with these types of birds because they are calm.

Thank you for reading!!!
I will be trying to post about every 2-4 days.

I've only got 1 BO, but mine seems to be an exception to the rule. She literally rules the roost. She lords over my Brahmas, Andalusians, Ameraucanas, Marans, and Cream Legbars. She also gets into more stuff than any chicken I've ever seen before. All chickens give her a wide berth and the rooster does everything she says.

My Orpingtons are also the rulers of the coop. They are older by several years as our chicks are just 23 weeks old and just beginning to lay. Our RIR was head of the coop with the chicks till we put them all together. Orps were taking no crap at all from my RIR or the RIR Rooster. I have three Orpingtons 5 now pellets as they are now no longer chick stage. My pellets are (2) EE's, (2)RIR and (2) Welsummers. We had to rehome our one RIR as he was a rooster and we are not allowed to have them here.

My Buff Cochins are great with my orpingtons, I had a Cochin rooster the one on my profile picture (Butterball was his name) and a orpington hen they were always together!

I have 5 buffs in a flock of 29 and they do great! I have some at the top of the pecking order and some closer to the bottom. I have many different breeds including Sussex and Cochin. They all do great together. Some of my buffs are calm and docile and some are a little more demanding and sassy. :plbb

My buffs are at the top of the pecking order, and they definitely don't get picked on in my mixed breed flock. My faverolle are a different story, they are always on the bottom it seems.
