where I am
I hatched some barnyard mix eggs from my white Cochin, Papaya. I know the rooster that fathered the eggs was my buff Silkie (my only rooster, but there were two others about two weeks before the eggs were collected, one did have some blue leakage) because they have black skin and five toes. I am wondering how this cross could have resulted in blue-looking chicks. The rooster is in my profile picture, I attached pictures of the hen and the chicks. Thank you.

My best guess is the white hen is recessive white hiding some form of blue but I’m not the most experienced..

The parents were from Meyer Hatchery, but I do not know how they breed their chickens.

I am also wondering if they are not actually blue, but something that looks like blue. Also, it may not look like it form the picture, but one is lighter than the other.

I'm not familiar with how Meyer hatchery breeds their Cochins, so I can't comment much on that. She could have blue or splash under the white, like Cheekychook12 suggested.

You'll get a better idea of their color as they start to feather out. You can post some updated pictures in a few weeks if you'd like.
Blue can come in many shades, starting from the classic light blue that everyone typically associates with the color, all the way to a very dark, almost black shade. They'll also likely have buff leakage, due to the dad being buff.

I will post updates as they age.
