I was outside watching my girls free range when I saw one of them raise their foot and start to pull off some dirt/poop. I noticed a small dark spot on her foot and immediately thought of bumble foot. After looking at her I made sure to check the rest of my girls and found that more of them have these. None of them are showing signs of uncomfortable time walking, perching, or running. I soaked their feet in an epsom salt bath, treated with triple antibiotic ointment, and then wrapped with vet wrap. Is this bumble foot?? And what should I do if it is?

note: I live in central CA and it’s been in the 100’s+ the last couple weeks. To help out my birds we have been turning on a fan mister and letting it run from 11am-7pm. Would the dampness of the ground cause or make the condition of their feet worse?

Yup, that’s bumble foot.

Any suggestions of what I should do? We have a few vets around that can treat poultry but not super immediately.
Make a epsom salt bath, and when the chicken’s scab is soft, tear it off. Squeeze the foot to get the pus out, and try to find the root of the problem, which is a little hard pus stone thing. Wrap the foot in vet wrap, so no more dirt gets caught in the foot pad. A bumble foot bumble is basically a bird’s infected pimple. Some vets offer antibiotics to prevent the infection from returning.

Okay thank you so much!
