Sorry, @aart, I'm not exactly sure which end is supposed to go next to the wall. I am assuming you mean the "back" end, not the opening where the mouse goes in? How does that keep the mouse from backing out of the trap? Color me dumb, I'm not getting it. :oops:

I would think you should have the hole next to the wall so they can run right in.

My technique doesn't apply to that kind of trap.
I use a typical snap trap like this:

Yeah, I was actually able to work on some door trim/baseboard pieces out in the barn!
That won't be happening again for a couple of days. Besides being painful, it isn't safe to work when you can't feel your fingers and gloves just don't cut it for woodworking.
