This year I desperately needed layers. Really wanted some California White chicks (Leghorn x California Grey) and when the feedstore got those in I bought 3 along with a couple of Easter Eggers. Normally my bantam hens raise all the chicks but they don't go broody on my schedule so I have to raise these babies myself.

The Ca Whites are super friendly! Noticeably more friendly than the little EE chicks. Very pleased so far and I heard they are great producers yet non-aggressive which is just what we need since I have OEG bantam hens in the flock as well.

Anyone else had them and if so what did you think? Here is a short video of them enjoying some outside time in the coop chick pen.

I have yet to try them. I almost picked up some from the feedstore last week. Let us know how they produce later on and if they stay more personable than leghorns.

Will post again in the fall. I won't be getting any eggs (except a few tiny bantam eggs) until these girls start laying. My only 3 older layers were killed one afternoon while free ranging in the yard. Apparently there is a fox family in the back 40, I had no idea until that happened.

Sorry about your hens.

They are not a very common breed, if your feedstore had them the same week I wonder if it was from the same hatchery.
