This Call Duck has not walked for months and months. They wanted to give up on her but I didn't. Finally, happy to say that she is now standing up and walking but think she can walk better if we trimmed her nails. They are really long. Long as half a toothpick or so on some of the nails...others not that bad. How can I cut them myself? We do not have a vet that treats ducks or chickens.

I have never trimmed ducks nails but I am pretty sure you can, first off does she have clear nails or blk? if clear you'll be able to see the quick better you'll probably have to cut a little at a time so the quick will recede, if you cut the quick it will bleed alot so make sure to have quick stop or flour and apply pressure till the bleeding stops. Just as with dogs nails the quick can be made to recede you will just have to cut a small amount at a time till you get it where you want them. Good for you to not give up on your duck, Long nails can really make it hard to walk especially if the curl under. Do you have a dogs nail clippers they would work the best probably.

I have a disabled duck that lives on the house- his feet are all curled up and I have to trim his nails regularly. I just use nail clippers, making sure I dont cut them too short so it doesnt cause them to bleed. Well done on getting your girl walking again. It can be tough looking after them- but so worth while when they pull through in the end.

Congrats on getting her to walk again!!!
Yep, a little nail trimming at a time is best. I use a human toe nail clippers for my call duck nails. Seems to fit just fine.

Sorry when i was thinking of clippers to use I was thinking of my muscovy I'd probably have to use something more like dog clippers for them. Good luck and hopefully after you get her nails in order she'll be running around like new.

I didn't realize duck nails even had quick. I've cut my call duck's nails pretty short when I first got him. They were curled under and looked very uncomfortable. Just took a dog clipper and did it. It was really easy.
