Can a forum get too large?

I believe the answer is maybe and much has to do with the desired interaction via the website. While raising chickens has its issues and some technical areas to be researched on occasion, many of posts, at least for people that have been here for a bit, are about all sorts of other areas of life experiences. Therein lies the potential rub, I think this site's appeal is its earthy down home feel. For example, I never run into someone talking on the cell phone at our small town hardware store, oblivious to the rest of the world. It would be considered very rude unless an emergency. In larger cities, it is commonplace to ignore those 2 feet away from you. My point is that the increases in size have the potential to give it a big box feel as opposed to the intimacy of the corner store.

I think it's more of a- It's fine until all of the posts are personal life problems, games, or stuff that does not relate to poultry. As long as there are still poultry related topics, and the members are nice etc it's fine.. But if poultry isn't being discussed on a chicken forum, and all of the members are generally "evil" i don't see a reason to keep up "Backyard chickens" any longer.
