I have lost some chickens and I know these aren't the best pics but he wont let me get any closer even at the closest zoom of my camera. I think under its wings and under tailed are striped.

i googled it and i found that it looks allot like a young red tailed hawk. look for yourself on google. the pics look really similar. just google juvenile red taled hawk

I've looked at so many pics on google...its so hard to tell. Was hoping someone that knows a little more than me could help.

I think it's a first year red tail. If it doesn't have the red underneath it's tail when it flies, then I would guess Kestrel which is a falcom (yep, that's howe it's spelled...Ask Hawk Mountain

) I think it's a subspecies of the falcon family.

I agree that it looks like a juvenile red-tailed hawk. They're pretty much everywhere, with some regional color variations. They're the ones incorrectly nick-named "chicken hawks". All birds of prey are protected by federal law, so don't shoot it!

No intention to shoot it at all.....Just driving me crazy trying to figure out what it is. We put netting up and I think he can't get to the girls now but it still makes me crazy to know what it is.
