Can anyone tell me if my chicks are roos or hens. I bought 8 chicks and have 7 left. One for sure turken, 4RIR, 2 pullet, and the other yellow one.

Thank you. How can you tell it's a male? Since Turk has missing feathers naturally it's hard for me to do the tail and wing id

you don't need tail and wing feathers to see that huge pink, curved on top comb of his.

If you look at your pullets they all have virtually no comb and it is straight on top.

I was hoping he'd be a hen. We'll I hope all the rest of my chicks are female. Turk is a turken. Can they be crossbred with other breeds? The other yellowish one was in the same bin at tractor supply. I'm honestly not sure what tractor supply is doing this year because before they had their chicks sexed and better labeled. I'm assuming most of the red ones are Rhode Island reds. I bought 8 chicks to begin with and lost one. It was a runt. I bought 4 Rhode Island reds, 2 just labeled pullets, Turk, and the other yellow one, and 2 ducklings. The ducklings weren't labeled as to breed. The lady said they'd be a silver color, but Google image keeps telling me Peking ducks, so I have no idea what they sold me.

Big Boss is probably a cockerel as well, pink wattles. Also keep an eye on Speck as those are thick legs it has, if it has pink wattles as well then it will be a cockerel.

You can essentially cross any chicken breed with any other chicken breed or jungle fowl. When crossing though common sense should come into play as some bantams are way too small to safely cross with some of the larger breeds, although I have heard of it being done successfully.

The red ones look like RIR's to me. It looks like you are keeping the ducks together with the chickens, it might pay to do a search of the forum for tips and tricks on keeping ducks with chickens as they have different needs and others on here have figured out good ways of caring for both of their needs together.

Thanks. Yes we have the 2 ducks in with the chicks. Our main coop has a 19 ft run, so I'm sure the ducks will have plenty of room. I had ducks before but coyotes got them and my other chicks 2 years ago

I was meaning things more like ducks need access to water to swim and chickens don't, they both have different feed requirements, etc., but if you have kept them before then you would know that and already have a pond in there for them plus a way of feeding them differently and things like that.

Damn coyotes, I take it that you have had to upgrade your predator security since then.

Yes I've moved. We have coyote here too but we have a better set up. They killed mine 3 days after we put them out side in a small coop to get big enough to go in with our big girls we had then. They also eventually got them and our pot bellied pig
