Have a wild orange trees a couple hundred feet away from the chicken coop and run. I will wash off all the oranges just want to make sure it is fine before I do it. I have silkies, just silkies

They *can* eat a limited amount of citrus but aren't likely to eat it unless short on other options.

When I throw tired oranges into the run my chickens mostly ignore them until they have gotten squishy and infested with fruit fly larva. Then they eat the bugs rather than the oranges. :D

Now my sister's dubia roach colony -- they LOVE oranges.

Agreed that they’re usually not a favorite, and that in large quantities can be less than ideal health wise...but worth a try.

I’d start small and cut the oranges open for easy access to the flesh (a knife or a sharp shovel will do the trick).

I gave my girls 4 cut open orange halfs (cut side up) on a hot day when I didn't have any veg. to add to their afternoon ice water. They ate them down to the peels. For the juice, I think. Is it too soon to give them oranges again 2 days later? It's another scorcher. I serve them in a pie tin of ice water. They are fresh from the tree and very sweet.
