We have a frizzled gold laced polish hen that we thought was egg bound or injured since she was walking like a penguin after finding her with her saddle all messed up and pulling her wings back at an odd angle. Her saddle was removed but she continued the penguin waddle so we brought her inside and gave her an epsom salt soak in case she was injured or egg bound. She pooped a giant poop shortly after this and stopped waddling and was acting normally. We kept her inside in a nice quiet, dark room until she laid her egg the next day to rule out being egg bound. She's rejoined her flock with newly trimmed wing shafts since we think they're the culprit for the saddle messing up in the first place. They were completely stripped and pointy, almost like little needles from our rooster over-mating her as his favorite which is why she now has a down under hen saddle to protect her back and shoulders. She did an awkward walk as soon as she rejoined the flock that wasn't quite yet waddling but had a giant broody looking poop and then started walking normally again. She isn't broody and has never been broody. Has anyone had this happen before? Can chickens get constipated? Is there a way to help make sure she doesn't get constipated again?
