Cheapest Healthiest Way to feed chicken and ducks.

I understand some money is a must use. But so far from beggining of them hatching and till now i probably used more than 300$ on them. I don't even have a coop yet but i have a BIG backyard for them. They are around 11-12 weeks old.

There is a long list of feed suppliers, I am sure one of them probably carries chicken feed in larger bags.

Your welcome

There is probably more than that, but I thought that was a good start. Wanted to keep them pretty close to your location, the cost of gas is horrible! Thought it might be easier to just call them first and see which ones carry what, that way you can get some prices and then buy from the cheapest one.

I use a starter/grower and then add oyster shell for the hens. I pay $14.10 for a 50lb bag, but I realize California's prices are probably a lot higher than Oklahoma prices.

Hope you find some cheaper feed.

i would give leftovers but i get mine at the local feed store for 13.99 for 50# layer feed and then i give scratch 1 time a day and i still have bugs in the yard they dont have to work hard enough

usually the bigger the bag the bettre the price per # wal-mart has 20# bags for 8.20 i work there and u can order it online site to store if they dont have it at your local store

I don't know about ducks, but I have eight chickens and I feed them layer feed from the local Mom and Pop store. They make there own brand in house. And its only 10 per 50 pounds. Also I feed them all our scraps that aren't meat. They love stale cereal, veggie scraps, And baked beans. They also love leftover mac and cheese. They are almost like pigs. (They'll eat almost anything)

When I read your problem, I went to 411.com, a great place for looking up businesses. I was going to post the list of feed stores in your zip code, but Elite Silkies beat me to it. If you want to take a look at 411.com, here's the link:
http://www.411.com/business?key=feed+store&where=90503.

When I looked at feed stores in my area, I was surprised at the number of feed store in my city. My results were for 8 feed stores. Your zip code had 64!!

At 20# of feed in 5 days for 6 chickens & 4 ducks, it would seem to me either the food is getting billed out of whatever you are feeding in onto the ground and wasted, or you are feeding more critters than you realise - possibly wild birds, or rodents at night. As well at finding a cheaper source of food, I would also suggest addressing these two issues.

We buy from a bakery, and get whole trays of stuff for 1 dollar. You don't get a choice, but it is 8-12 bags of bread. Ask for 'feed bread'. It is the stuff they can't sell for people, but my chickens love it. I feed one bag a day to 60 birds as a snack.
