Hi, I have a black australorp chick that's almost 3 weeks old with fused (?) toes. I know they need to be cut probably, it's the same on both feet. What's the best way to do it? I've got lots of tools and medical stuff I can use. I'm guessing it'll bleed some since she's older now. I'd love any thoughts on how to go about this, and also post op care.
Thanks!

Have you posted this same chick before? I feel like this situation is familiar.
Maybe on my chick raising thread. It's the neighbor's and when I gave them to her late that night I forgot to snip it. Then they got sick a couple days later and just got over it a few days ago. It doesn't seem to be a problem at all right now, but I'm guessing it could be when she's bigger.

Dont cut the toes. Your chick will be fine (I had a rooster like this, he was just fine). Just dont breed it as webed toe in chickens will be passed down.
Even fused that much together? I just worry about perching and stuff. They're almost fully connected to the outer toe. They're just pets so no worries about that. I just don't want my neighbor to have any issues. It's her first time having chickens and is really excited.

I've done it with a few chicks from a test hatch. I used new sharp scissors and styptic powder. Some didn't bleed at all, 1 bled a little to where I wrapped a bandaid around it til the next day and I agree to not breed forward and done as early as possible after hatch.

Here's a video I used... There's other videos out there.

Yep. You shouldn’t have any walking issues. You chick will be just fine. That amount of webbing is the same that was on my roosters foot.

If I were going to cut them, I'd use a very sharp pair of scissors.
Usually if you can catch this at hatch, they heal quickly.
Since this chick is a little older, it may take a little more treatment and time to heal.

It's up to you whether or not to cut the webbing, she may get along just fine the way she is, but if you are going to do it, now is the time instead of waiting until she's older.
