its genuinely infuriating at this point and i have considered culling this chick multiple times. i keep the brooder in my room as i have no other place to put it. this chick is 1.5 weeks old. it didnt do this the first few days but then i picked it up ONCE and now it cries until im right in front of it. if i leave for work, it cries and disturbs everyone whos sleeping in the house. if i leave to use the bathroom it screams until i walk back in the door. if i sit on my bed it just stares at me from the brooder and cries SO LOUDLY. which also means i cant sleep because if i try to lie down it just cries. i lower the lights gradually and all the other chicks its with go to bed just fine with no peeping at all.
it has fresh food, fresh water. the heatplate is the right height and it has places in the brooder to cool down, it literally just chirps because im not close enough. and it is a deafening distress chirp. i genuinely dont know how such a small creature can make such a loud sound. how do i get it to calm down???? im going insane.

I'm not really sure, but. Is the Chick with other Chicks or Chickens? If not, that's probably the Reason. Cause its Lonely, or the Chick might want a Mama. I have a Chicken Stuff animal I put by the Incubator, and it calms and quiets down my Chicks. Sometimes

yes its with other chicks, they spent their first 1-2 days in the incubator together - all the same age. it was happy and quiet with this other chicks until i held it one day and everyday since has been hell. the other chicks will come out from the heatplate if the chirping goes on too long and yet it just ignores them and continues staring at me while peeping

This happened to me with my Hen. Clyde, I'd sit there and then eventually have to stay with her. If they'res nothing wrong with the Chick, you could try a Chicken stuff animal like me. So, its like a Hen. Or, you might just have to ignore the Chick. Then the Chick will learn you absolutely don't care, and your not going to come to them everytime they chirp

When my chicks have done this, if it's only at night it has typically been because they are not under heat properly with when it's dark. Is it coming out from under the heat plate when it's doing this? If so, can you rotate the brooder or move the heat plate so it will be under it while it's staring at you so it stays there? Once the chick is under the plate, keep it very dark in the room.

1.5 weeks old. That chick has imprinted on you and thinks you are its Mommy.

I don't have any good answers other than get it out of your house as soon as you can. It may eventually change.
This. I had a duckling imprint on me and I pawned it off to my dog, they became BFFs, they're in my profile pic.

Our babies do this! If they hear our voice, they start chirping really loudly! As soon as we give them some attention, they quiet down. I thought it was a problem with the brooder plate because they seemed to love warming up in our hands. I put a camera in the brooder, and sure enough, they're peaceful and playful as can be when we're not in the room.

We close them in our guest room at night. They can't hear us and tend to go to sleep faster.
