One of my girls ate what looks like a thin, plastic topper. Kind of tube looking. Best way I can describe it. I tried to get it before she swallowed it but was too late.

It’s been a full 24 hours since this happened. I’ve watched her eat, drink, poop and she’s laid an egg.

However, I just went back out there and she was on top of the coop hanging out. She maybe looks a little hunched but not sure if all of this is just a coincidence because we are having winter weather (snow), which isn’t common here.

What do you even do in this situation? If she’s been pooping and eating, is it safe to assume she’s ok? Will she poop it out? Could she feel a little yucky because her body is trying to break it down? Help 🫠🫠

I would make sure that she has granite poultry grit available, and I would probably offer some chilled coconut oil to peck. Mineral oil in a little cooked egg would also be good to help move anything along the GI tract would be helpful.

I would say it looks like a small, plastic screw. No sharp edges. Basically a round top with the long part of a screw attached, if that makes sense. It was randomly in our yard so I don’t have another to show as reference

Did you actually look around the area of ground for it? I notice that chickens are lightning fast at discerning inedible objects and spitting them out. I thought my hen swallowed a piece of glass one time. It certainly looked that way, but I found it nearby. She spit it w/out my noticing. Hope yours is OK!
