1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
Americana, ~3years, slightly lighter but not by much
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
She was waddling low to the ground for a day or two but still acted normally beside walking funny. Can't walk much anymore. Seems to sleep a lot. A little bit of wheezing, but that is now gone. Today, she is uninterested in food and drink.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
3-4 days, but only got really bad yesterday.
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
No
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
No
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
Uncertain. We found some mites so we are cleaning the coop today (we tend to clean the coop when needed vs a regiment) and spreading DE and start adding garlic to their feed which stopped over the winter. Dried poo on her backside for a couple of days.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
She eats well on occasion, but doesn't drink much. We provided some water with electrolytes and apple cider vinegar. We use Purina layer as their standard feed. Then scratch grain as a treat.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
When she does poop it is liquidy most white with a bit of brown. Used a q-tip to clean the vent and colchlea which stimulated a small amount of poop
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
Epson salt baths, fed her a little coconut oil reading that this might help loosen up her stool. She been separated from her flock. We moved her into a room temperature area. We were leaning towards an egg-bound diagnosis but we don’t know for sure that we feel an egg.
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
We need to treat ourselves as vet availability is far out and rather expensive in our area
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use.
Straw bedding, and live in an outside coop and run area. There are 14 hens in total.
Our concern is that she seems to be getting worse and has stopped eating and drink almost entirely and hasn't had much of poop in over 24 hours. She can't seem to walk but can hold herself up when in the epsom bath. She doesn't seem like she in pain but this has always been one that would get on and off bouts of lethargy, and some wheezing, this is not that though. We purchased her from out local mercantile they vaccinate, but I'm not sure from what.
We feel as though if she doesn’t start to show signs of recovery we may need to cull her, but want to everything reasonable to get back to health. We know barely moving for 24 hours isn’t a good sign.
