Hi everyone,
One of my hens is suddenly wheezing. She makes an inhale wheeze and then shakes her head a bit. The head shaking doesn’t happen with every breath, but often enough that it is worrisome. Her sister died suddenly about 1.5 weeks ago. Just curled up in a corner to “rest” and was dead the next morning. No other visible signs of illness except that they haven’t been laying as much recently, and their combs are a tad paler than usual. I would say egg production has dropped 30-40%. (Might be the heat? But maybe illness related?)
Does the wheezing hen have something stuck in her crop, or do I have a serious respiratory illness on my hands? I have no idea how to diagnose or treat chicken ailments, and there aren’t any poultry vets anywhere near us. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
