One of my chickens is not walking well, she goes a few steps and then sits down, it is almost like she can't stay up on her legs. She even sits to eat.
What should I do? She is eating but worried that she is not walking properly

Any help much appreciated

She does not seem sick, she is just walking very awkwardly and her knees are very together almost knock kneed
She eats well but does it sitting down walks a bit but then sits down

How old is she?

Is she very thin? If so, when you feel her breast, her breastbone will stick out like a sharp ridge. You can check the breast on another hen for comparison.
If she's thin, it may be weakness that's causing her difficulty.

How old is your chicken? They can have splayed legs when they are born but that can be fixed....I would seperate her tho just incase the others see her as weak.

One of my hens had similar symptoms several months ago. She had been laying oddly shaped eggs for about a week prior, and the day before she acted like this she missed laying an egg. She walked as you described the entire day, and layed no egg that day. She actually looked like a penguin when she walked. The next day she layed a large oddly shaped egg, and she was fine after that. Although I wouldn't call her egg-bound, the egg must have felt quite uncomfortable. She has been fine ever since. What has your hen's egg laying pattern been? Could she be having similar issues?

She is 3 and a half months old and has not started laying yet.

I don't think it i weakness she eats all the time and is a big chicken, the kids got them at a church bazaar and instead of all female egg layers we have 2 roos and they are I think hybrid chicken but more like broilers. Apparently they will still lay quite well. The kids love them so much so it does not matter if they never lay an egg they serve so much purpose in teaching the kids to look after them and responsibility.

I am worried about her, she is the tamest chicken than will sit on the kids laps and let them stroke her, she is so tolerant with them.
They are away at their Granny and I already have to get rid of the 2 Roos while they are away I can't tell them something happened to Gertie too

I took her to the vet today as she is really struggling to walk
It does not seem to be something infectious and she said that the broiler type chickens can get defects and problems with their legs.
The joint felt a bit hot so she gave her an antibiotic injection and is going to do some reading and speak to a chicken expert and see what else it could be and what we should do.
Poor Gertie.

If shes a broiler, she may be having joint problems common in these guys because of weight/fast growth. If I were you I might talk to "Brunty_Farms" on here, they raise broilers and say they avoid the leg problems by the way they feed and manage them. He can give you some advice.
