Chicken oddities: what’s something you wish your chicken/chickens didn’t do?

I was using a power drill on the outside of the coop and I was sure that would send everyone running in a panic to the other end of the coop. Nope. They all came over, led by the alpha, to investigate the sound.
Good to know mine aren't they only ones . . . .it does make you wonder how they managed to survive in the wild though, lol.

Drink from and stand in the muddiest spot in the pen. I have white feather-footed chickens. Not a good combination!
I too have booted Snow White Cochins and insist on not only going out in the rain, but finding the muddiest puddle in the history of man to stomp around in.
Or they’ll have clean cold water to drink from, and prefer the nastiest mud puddle.

I've had the majority of my hens for 2-3+ years. They see me every day. They hear me talk to them every day. They see the same food scoop EVERY. DAY.

For SOME reason the food scoop is spooking them. If I move a little too fast with it in my hands it's time to squawl and fly away. 🙄🙄🙄
Mine are the exact same way with a blue tarp I have. They will go toe to “toe” with a snake, but run for the hills if they see the tarp!

Right?! A power tool yay! Let’s go take a look. But “oh no a hummingbird! Run and hide!”

I was improvising with dog toys I had around looking for things to entertain them with and learned mine are scared to death of tennis balls . . . comes in handy when I need to herd them into the run.

RIP thyme, oregano, and sweet alyssum seeds that I planted in the path outside the run. 🙄

Pooping in the nice ice block pans we give them several times a day to cool off. The pans are plastic and it can be hard to get that smell out (soaking in vinegar helps).
Ohhh yeah and pooping in or near their feeders! What’s up with that?! Are they so desperately hungry, they can’t possibly wait to poop first??
