Ok, I'll preface this by saying I know this sounds crazy but...

I've been on a weeklong business trip. My husband was with me over the weekend and we left the girls in their coop/run while we were gone. Brother checked on them while we were away, but they didn't get a chance to free range, and they get a bit huffy and noisy when they're confined. We live in an urban setting so the noise is not ideal, although we are perfectly within our local ordinances.

Husband went home Sunday evening and said the chickens were noisy and he could hear a very high pitched alarm of some kind coming from our neighbor's house or yard. He said it has continued the entire week and he's concerned it could be some kind of chicken deterrent like a dog whistle? To me, that sounds like stretch. I was going to google it, but didn't even know where to start

Does that even exist?

Never heard of such a thing but nothing's impossible. I've found it doesn't matter how ridiculous something sounds there's usually at least a few people out there that's dumb enough to buy into an idea. If there's any chance something would sell someone is always willing to produce it.
Maybe its a pest deterrent or anti bark deterrent of some sort that they figured may have an effect on birds.
Easier then guessing and goggleing would be to go ask. Then you would know what's going on and maybe ease some tension before things get worse.

That would drive me nuts!

I would ask too.....unless that neighbor has already complained about chicken noise.

That's a good point.
When I first read the post I was thinking same as your first comment.
Afraid even if were issues with them by about day 3 I'd be finding out before I became a crazy neighbor.

Might even call the authorities, if no response from knocking on neighbors door....could be a security or fire alarm going off.
