Chicken with no legs??

This is so great, who knew there were so many out there. Frosty doesn't feel so alone now. I love your basket that you have, I've been trying to figure out how to make something for her to perch on but couldn't. I will be making something like that for her asap.

A chicken hammock!

I have heard of people having house chickens, but what are you going to do when he really starts crowing as he gets bigger?
Contrary to what people may think, when roosters are in the house they actually get on a schedule. I have several roosters in my home at any given time, due to severe cold weather. I have 4 silkie roosters with hens in a mudroom off kitchen turned into a coop/run,with 2 orpington girls. My 2 orpington boys when in the house, sleep on cat trees in my hallway. They never crow until a light is turned on in the morning.,example if someone is up at 6 am they will crow(silkies only, orpington boys crow way less, light goes off they go back to sleep) They may crow periodically during day,but this is primarily when the dogs start barking and then i tell them to be quiet and it works, they all look at me and stop, dogs included. Occasionally they will crow to each other just to check and see where everyone is,but the silkies do most of the crowing, when the orpingtons get tired of hearing them, they let out one crow each and then the silkie roosters are quiet,i have found they crow less in home than outside.

Yeah, it was super easy. It's just PVC pipe & then I used zip ties to put a piece of cloth across with two leg holes and a poop hole. She's bigger now and her legs only got worse and are in the way so now she's in a basket while I'm at work. I put a piece of foam pad (from a craft store) over it and then cut leg holes. Then I prop her in it, and she's sitting by a window or I leave the tv on. When I get home from work I put her on the couch with me & spend a lot of time with her. I also downloaded a Friskies cat game on my cell phone so that she play it (she pecks at the fish!). She has been to the vet but no one will work on her, and I don't want to euthanize her, so its been a stressful 8 months. I'm just doing whatever I can to keep her happy & occupied.

Redriverranchmn Can your girl can she walk on her own? Often even after freezing off feet, they learn to walk on remaining stubs, encourage this if she does not already. You can wrap stubs up in vet wrap until the skin toughens/hardens up,this may also help her with walking. She may use wings fro balance, this is perfectly normal so do not get alarmed.

My crippled chick Oakley cannot walk at all. My chicken Cassidy who's feet froze off can get around just fine. I wrap the stubs in vet wrap to give her some padding and she walks perfectly. :)

Yes,my question above was for you, glad Cassidy can walk(Is she the one in basket in your profile photo)what happened to Oakley?

Oakley, the crippled one is in the basket/sling/handi-chair. She was a chick I took in with what looked like a slipped tendon.... But I took her to the vet and he said it was just a major deformity. Her other leg is not right either. It's muscles are tight and its pretty much stuck in a 90 degree angle. I do exercises on it everyday and I'm hoping I can loosen up the muscles which tightened from not being used. Her other leg however is completely useless. I wish I could get it amputated and then have hope her 'okay' leg would get better. Cassidy is the one in the above picture. She never stopped walking despite her feet falling off! It was amazing how quickly she healed and adapted!

I am not saying your vet was incorrect in diagnoses, but if her leg is turned out at joint it may have been a slipped tendon, unfortunately after this length of time, probably nothing can be done. Keep exercising her leg, gently pull leg backwards like she would normally stretching, see if you can eventually lengthen/untighten tendon,if she appears to be in pain doing this then stop.

What is wrong with useless leg?

The useless leg is the one that I thought had a slipped tendon. It's twice the size of the other leg, very thick, and its turned in so she will claw her other leg if I don't separate it with a blanket or band-aid her foot/claws. It will never be usable unfortunately. I was on her all night looking for what it could be and in think poultry osteoporosis sounded the most legit. I have been doing bending exercises on her other leg, trying to get it stretched out. I think she likes it too. Anything else I can do to help stretch it faster? Epsom baths? Or any muscle creams I can use to help it if it hurts or to relax it? I just started doing the leg exercises but plan on continuing until that leg is back in a usable condition! I just need advice on how to make her more comfy and if there is anything I can give her. She doesn't act in pain, but I know a lot of time animals it. Thanks for any help!

I have heard of people having house chickens, but what are you going to do when he really starts crowing as he gets bigger?

Actually, Fred has crowed a couple times since being in the house. Fortunately, he has a VERY quiet crow! The other day he crowed in my living room while I was in the bedroom. He was so quiet that I couldn't even hear him. (my son told me he crowed.) And, no, my house isn't that big. My bedroom is the next room over from the living room. If Fred was a full size rooster, crowing could be a problem (maybe) but he's tiny, about 1 pound, and he is full grown.
He crowed outside before his injury but not very often.. Nothing like the big guys! Since he's been inside, he mainly crows when the dogs bark, which isn't often. It's pretty much only when somebody comes to the door. I can deal with that.
