Chickens attacked , killed and mauled by neighbors dog-

What about concern of using too much of the silver sulfadizine? I don't even have much in the tube already and then read concerns of low wbc

I have not seen anyone express concerns when using Silver Sulfadizine. You may want to run that concern by your vet during the visit tomorrow.

I just use generic triple antibiotic ointment on wounds.

I will keep you posted after her apt today. I had read it can slow down wound closure which makes sense if it lowers WBC. Also I found it can cause a slight odor which seems to be what I am smelling

Does anyone have a pic on how to put an infant shirt on a chicken?
I am considering if I have a fan I can put both in my enclosed garage. Just in case a fly was in there would a shirt also help?

Update from Vet Appointment

So Vet said slight infection starting and delayed wound closure yet when apt started I said it was concerned after reading studies about delayed wound closure using silver sulfadizine. He suggested to keep using it but I think I will stick with the Vetrcyn. She has another appointment wed and if more infection talk of surgery to close it but we already decided we don't want to go that route and would pts. But then I would be left with one lonely chicken

Sorry the appointment didn't go that well.

If the wound is infected, then if she were mine I'd go to Walmart, CVS, etc. and pick up a bottle of Chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) or Povidone Iodine. Use one of these to clean the wound really well, then apply a very thin layer of triple antibiotic ointment on the wound. I'd clean the wound again the next day, then apply the ointment again. See if the odor and infection is gone. If so, then apply triple antibiotic ointment once daily to keep the wound moist.

Ideally, the wound needs to remain uncovered so it will get air, close up and heal. If that's not possible, put the tshirt on her or cover lightly with the bandana to deter her.

I'd also get an antibiotic and start it. Amoxicillin would be a good choice.

I have worked in hospitals in the past and used a lot of silvadene cream on burns in children who underwent burn treatment for weeks and months. Most any medication or cream/ointment may have detrimental side effects if a huge amount is used over a long period. That includes Betadine, Neosporin/ Neomycin, antibiotics, and others. My point is using it for a short amount of time in a normal amount is probably not going to hurt your chicken.

That's the thing, he had me pretty much smearing it all over. Since Tuesday I have less than half a tube left. 👀

My Dad has used it before and it healed a burn fast! Several had recommended to save it for when it's closed up a bit more

How it looks tonight. That's not blood but the Scarlett oil. My friend who is a wildlife rehabbEr swears by it and has used it on chickens with amazing results too. I will say when I sprayed it on her I swore I could tell she relaxed a bit and then left it alone. So tonight it is uncovered 👏 👏. At this point I will try anything and everything that will only help healing vs delay it. ❤️ But I get in moments well pretty much every time I care for her wound I get angry and then upset then I think this is inhumane then others remind me that chickens are resilient.
