I have not seen anyone express concerns when using Silver Sulfadizine. You may want to run that concern by your vet during the visit tomorrow. What about concern of using too much of the silver sulfadizine? I don't even have much in the tube already and then read concerns of low wbc
I will keep you posted after her apt today. I had read it can slow down wound closure which makes sense if it lowers WBC. Also I found it can cause a slight odor which seems to be what I am smellingI have not seen anyone express concerns when using Silver Sulfadizine. I just use generic triple antibiotic ointment on wounds.
Sorry the appointment didn't go that well.Update from Vet Appointment
So Vet said slight infection starting and delayed wound closure yet when apt started I said it was concerned after reading studies about delayed wound closure using silver sulfadizine. He suggested to keep using it but I think I will stick with the Vetrcyn. She has another appointment wed and if more infection talk of surgery to close it but we already decided we don't want to go that route and would pts. But then I would be left with one lonely chicken
That's the thing, he had me pretty much smearing it all over. Since Tuesday I have less than half a tube left.I have worked in hospitals in the past and used a lot of silvadene cream on burns in children who underwent burn treatment for weeks and months. Most any medication or cream/ointment may have detrimental side effects if a huge amount is used over a long period. That includes Betadine, Neosporin/ Neomycin, antibiotics, and others. My point is using it for a short amount of time in a normal amount is probably not going to hurt your chicken.
My Dad has used it before and it healed a burn fast! Several had recommended to save it for when it's closed up a bit moreThat's the thing, he had me pretty much smearing it all over. Since Tuesday I have less than half a tube left.![]()
