My understanding is that it is non toxic. I've not used it here b/c our winters are so severe that it is not likely to survive from one year to the next. Don't take my word that it is safe. When wondering about any product, do your own research. What one person on the net deems to be safe may not meet your criteria of what is and is not safe.
I do agree that unless the MS is a wide spread application (meaning that you and all your neighbors are using it) you are fighting a loosing battle b/c the beetles will fly in to re infest from a long distance.
I actually encourage trap crops to grow around the periphery of my yard, and use a hand held trap to collect them. Dump them in a bowl of water, and the girls have fun bobbing for beetles.
