chickens eye is bubbly?

one of my chickens eyes has bubbles in it, not swollen but looks like it has pus coming from the top! new to the chicken world. Any suggestions on what it could be or how to treat? Thank you.

Probably MS. It comes and goes with stress. A handful of my chickens have it. it cuases bubbly eyes and wheezing. It's not serious, I've only had one casualty.

I had one who's eye was like that for a few days and then it went away and it's never came back. I always wondered what it was from. What is MS? I've never heard of it.

Yes what is ms please? My Tom gets that all the time, started happening after another male tried to fight him, I just always thought it was damage to the sinuses in front of the eye?

An eye like that with bubbles and pus makes me think respiratory illness like MG (Mycoplasma Gallisepticum), but it could be caused by other respiratory illness or an infection from something like a scratch to the eye or E. Coli. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044

I would flush the eye with saline, try to remove the pus. You may need to press it out or apply a warm compress to loosen it up. Having someone help you would be very good.
Once you flush the eye and get as much pus out, put some ophthalmic ointment in the eye like Terramycin or you can use plain Neosporin or Vetericyn eye gel. Do this 2-3 times a day.

IF after a few days of flush/ointment, the eye does not get better or IF you notice other symptoms (lethargy, coughing, facial swelling, mucous, etc.) then it would be best to seek vet care or you can try an antibiotic to see if that makes a difference. Tylan50 can be found at most feed stores like Tractor Supply. Dosage is .25ml per pound of weight, given orally 3times a day for 5 days.

In an eye, if it were mycoplasma it would be mycoplasma gallisepticum or MG. MG is a bacteria-like organism that causes sinus infection and conjuntivitis (pink eye.) MS is mycoplasma synovitis, that affects the joints. Eye bubbles can be from MG, or an eye injury from pecking or a foreign body in the eye. Respiratory diseases can cause drainage that can be sticky or like pus. I would clean the eye with saline, and apply some Terramycin eye ointment to the eye twice a day. Plain neosporin can be used if you cannot get Terramycin.

Are you seeing any sneeze or cough, nasal drainage, wheezing, rattly breathing, or gasping?
