Dishonest!!! Don't shop here! Unfortunately, I only read the reviews and missed the "tips" (still trying to figure out how to write a review on yelp from my phone so I can warn others) on the Yelp site. I drove 45 minutes to his house where he sells chickens on the written (text) and verbal (phone) agreement he would provide 8-10 blue egg laying and sex link hens. I posted the picture of our text under the businesses pictures of Yelp as proof. When I got there, not only did he say he did not have ANY laying hens available, he raised the price of the older chicks (blue layers) to $25. and had NO sex links. The heartless nature of this man was evident after I explained that I am a single mother of five children and the only reason I had driven the distance was because all of our chickens had been killed the day before while free ranging and my children were heartbroken. The highlight of their days is checking the coop throughout the day for eggs and love to guess what colors they might find. They were SO excited when I told them I was going to get more hens (especially when they learned I was bringing home blue layers. When I explained this to him, and that I expected him to at least honor his price for the blue egg pullets that weren't even going to lay for months, he refused. He knew I wasn't willing to go home empty handed to my children and he intended to capitalize on it. Several times he tried to trick me into purchasing more by saying he would throw in an extra chick if I purchased more. Eventually he agreed to sell me 4 at the price of 3 and when I had them all picked out acted like he hadn't JUST made the offer and told me he would only honor it if I purchased six. He also originally showed me which ones he was willing to sell for $16.00 and then when I would choose the chickens he would tell me the ones I had picked were actually the $25.00 chicks. I was there for over an hour just trying to get him to honor his word and stick to a price he had just quoted. When I told him I wasn't happy with what he'd done he then refused to even sell me the chicks telling me he didn't want someone to leave unhappy with what they purchased. I told him there was NO WAY I was going to come home to my babies empty handed, and that if ANY other place was open (it was already after 8pm by that time) trust me, I would definitely go somewhere else. I even made SEVERAL calls while there, to find ANY place open that I could go with no luck. The weird part is he kept repeating the phrase "look, it's not like I lured you here under false pretenses" over and over again, while I was trying to explain that's EXACTLY what he did. Twice by text I asked how much his LAYERS were and after our phone conversation he completely lied. In a last ditch effort to get him to show a fraction of decency and integrity I asked if he would give me a $3.00 discount toward my gas which was met with a flat out "no" I really can't believe this guy is still in business. Even his coops are sub par. He was putting one together when I got there and I watched him glue and use only two diagonal screws to assemble the corners. I built better out of scraps from my garage.

I wish you were in Georgia. I would give you a couple of hens and a couple of pullets. I HATE people like the one you described. Anyone trying to make a huge profit from chickens is probably too stupid to do the right thing. I sell pullets for hens and pullets for $10.00 each but give away more than I sell. I only occasionally sell a couple to help pay for feed. Steer clear of bait and switch scams!!! Keep spreading the word about this idiot and never be afraid to leave empty handed because that is your ace in the hole.

yeah id rather explain to my kids about how people can hood wink you and that you should always be on gaurd.

that guy sounded like had other past problems saying he didnt lur u there.

You should have flat out walked out on this guy as soon as he lied.... and especially after he kept saying it wasn't like he lured you there......big red flags....letting him know you were a single parent ....also not a good idea. Letting him think you were desperate also not a good idea....

There are wack jobs out there.... not worth dealing with..... some are even dangerous.....

Yep, that's the guy! I only wish I'd read the "tips" section on Yelp before I'd made the trek out there. I would have realized what unscrupulous business sense this guy had. I just really couldn't believe how many times and how many ways he tried to scam me, from our first texts and phone calls to actually standing in front of him as he scrambled to change prices and lie straight to my face. I was completely bewildered.

Them types of backyard breeders are everywhere.

We have one here in our county too. I actually somewhat get along with him but don't send anyone to him.

He pulled a shady thing on me a few yes ago. Bought hatching eggs from me as he seen how well I do with my breed I raise and sell. He hatched them out and just as they was at laying age for him a mink kill a lot of the hens off. So he had a large amount of roos for the small amount of hens. So he asked for more eggs. For some reason I declined. Now I'm glad I did.
Later I found out he was telling everyone who got some eggs and chicks from him at a quarter of what I'm asking was informing folks that his birds are nicer quality then mine.
His few he didn't loose was inbreeding badly as they was siblings and keeping daughters on top of daughters. He lost the rest to more predictors and cold this yr and I will never make that mistake again.
I love my lil birds and take a lot of pride in them. I may not have top show quality but all are pretty and healthy and spoiled as a chicken flock can get. I may sell their eggs and chicks at a good price but it comes nowhere close to what I have into them. But they are pets 1st and pocket change makers 2nd.

And unfortunately, it happens with any type of animal that is bred. Not just chickens. Mills happen to every animal. :(
