collard greens

I hang a huge bunch fresh from a string and watch them go crazy. They are really cheap here and I buy a couple bunches every time I go to the farm market.

I let my girls into the yard after the main veggie garden had been harvested but I still had kale, spinach, swiss chard and collard greens growing. Hands down, their favorite was collard greens! I would feed them raw!

You can feed Collard Greens raw or cooked. On the other hand, if it's Mustard Greens, ya better send them to me for a taste test!

My girls love collard greens. I live in the 'burbs of San Francisco and subscribe to CSA -- my farm box in the winter always has lots of collard greens and kale. I give it to the chooks raw and they love it.

Just a heads up when feeding grasses or greens or grains of any kind to chickens. Make sure they have a steady supply of "insoluble" grit. This will help to prevent sour crop. Oyster shells are NOT insoluble grit, but "granite grit" is.

Hope we all have a safe chicken healthy New Year
