Hey all! I’m looking at getting some layers in the blue and green spectrum next week at my local Coastal Farm and Ranch... both the Colorpack and the Americana are advertised to lay in this color spectrum... which one would have more variety or be brighter blues/greens? Anyone have both? Or luck with one in particular?

I never heard of a "Colorpack" chicken. Usually when Ameraucana is spelled Americana it's a clue that they are really Easter Egger chickens which is NOT a breed. They are great for blue and green eggs if that is what you want. Whiting True Blue and Cream Legbar are breeds that lay blue eggs, but they are costly. You can also get "Green Queens" at some hatcheries at a reasonable rate. Easter Eggers work quite well. They are calm and good layers although they do take a long break in the winter. (I found from my experience with 4 of them.) Good Luck! :D

I have read that about “Americanas”, that they are basically Easter Eggers. The only part that makes me a little hesitant is because their little info signs at our local store say they can lay green, blue, or tan eggs. Eggs are eggs I suppose, but I would hate to get a few and have them all turn out tan, ya know?

the Colorpack, however, are advertised to Just lay in the blue-green spectrum, but specifically state that they are a blended bird that are NOT related to Amerucana...

It sounds like they are both Easter Eggers masquerading under other names. I’m just wondering about other people’s experience/luck with either breed. Thank you for your input! It is helpful 🙂

Sorry to chime in again. I have one olive egger, she is a cross between an Ameraucana and a Welsummer, but her eggs are tan sometimes too. My Easter Eggers eggs are always blue or greeny-blue in color. ;)

I have a color pack hen I got last year from Wilco. I'm pretty sure she is a Brown Leghorn X, and not a Cream Legbar (which lay blue eggs) cross. She ended up laying a tiny white egg and is the most flighty of all my birds but is good at foraging. My Easter Egger (AmeracaunaX) lays a lovely large green egg :) Image of her below. She's a hardy and lovely chicken.
