Both birds are 18 weeks old and from an assortment from Meyer Hatchery.

Chicken 1. Looks like a Lavender Orpington Cockerel? If so, am I correct in thinking that he's not a particularly fine specimen? His feathering just doesn't seem that impressive and he's kinda lazy. Saw a couple cockerels treading this one the other day though which makes me question whether he might be a she? This one is almost as big as my Bielefelder cockerel and is the second largest bird in the flock. 20250422_151620.jpg

Chicken 2: Supposed to be a Mottled Ancona hen. The comb and wattles on this one developed much earlier than on the others, but the feathering looks female to me. Thoughts?

Correct.
#1 looks like a lavender Orpington cockerel. Run of the mill hatchery Orpington.
#2 looks like an Ancona pullet. Not ideal pattern but never the less. Anconas like Leghorns have larger then average combs.

Looks that way to me. I can clearly see male saddle feathers on the orpAncona.

Anconas tend to be a fast maturing breed, which is probably why her comb and wattles developed faster than the others. But I don't see any male feathers on the ancona. She's mottled, but young. Mottled birds almost always get more white feathers with each molt.
