I watched my apron foil 3 young raccoons. I saw them digging in the leaves, hit the apron, move on a few feet, dig again. They gave up after that and left.
When I saw that, I made the apron wider. I also had some 2x3 fence that was only 24" tall that I was going to stick in the barn as "maybe it might be good for something someday." I had a use of it that day and laid it out on top of the existing apron for extra strength and security.
