Could I use Yesterday's News Cat Litter for my ducklings?

yep - I have pine shavings. I think they're nibbling at them tho. Just thought since I had the litter I could use it. I've been reading that folks use wood pellets and thought that would be comparable.

Cat litter is clay. When clay absorbs moisture, & gets stirred up quite often, it turns to clay slime. Don't use it. I agreewith Annie. Use pine shavings.

Yesterday's News isn't clay. It's recycled newspapers formed into pellets.

I tried using it for my pet rats once. They're nowhere near as 'moist' as ducks to keep (LOL) but the spots that got wet caused the ink to run off onto their fur and feet. The ink isn't poisonous but it makes them black stained.

I wouldn't use it for ducklings, that's for sure.

Hmmmm - I wonder if it would be okay under puppy pads or paper towels?

Yesterdays News is a great litter, and it does have it draw backs, as Caprice Acres mentioned. However, I like the idea of under the puppy pads. It's worth a shot. You have it, so you may as well be the experimenter for all of us!

I would watch them with it for the first little bit just in case.

Let us know!

Yesterdays News was always hailed as being safe and non toxic, as well as good for the environment. It's not much different than using newspaper to line a cage, only it's more absorbent.
