Hello all, now I know the majority of my answers are going to be telling me to give up and discard this egg, however, I recently lost my only female duck, who my partner and I were absolutely in love with. The day we lost her to predation she had laid a fertile egg. I was so happy when I realized I could incubate this egg and maybe have a baby from her. Well a week into the incubation I noticed a small crack that formed on the pointed end of the egg. And I continued incubation anyway. Im about 3 weeks in at this point and the crack has grown slightly but not much so I ended up covering it with parawax and am continuing on, I’ve noticed normal development during candeling but I have noticed a small void right under the crack, like an aipocket. They membrane is still in tact and I see movement inside from the developing duckling up until recently it hard to see anything now. My question is, if it does make it, what are things I need to be cautious of while it is hatching? Will it pip like normal? Will this crack make this difficult? Will it have potential birth defects? If anyone has experience with this please let me know. Thanks! I have an auto turn incubator that I’ve been keeping at 65% humidity to account for the shell being cracked if that makes any sense, and the temp a 100.

As long as there is no bacterial infiltration, everything should happen normally. Sounds like so far so good.
That’s why I put the wax on it but Im just going I didn’t wait too long to do it and I’ve just sealed it in instead. Thank you for some reassurance. I think I’m just scarred from the experience of having a Chick try and hatch on my kitchen counter during the summer months. I’ve helped chicks hatch which I know ppl say you shouldn’t do but those chicks are very viable chickens now so I just don’t want to miss something and have it die if I’m not around 😫. Can someone remind me again why I have birds???? lol

Just an update. This duckling made it all the way and just never pipped and hatched so unfortunately it didn’t make it. I ended up ordering three female Cayuga that ducklings and they are doing great 😊
