Cream Legbar Working Group: Standard of Perfection

I am entering a Cream Legbar in a show this week. Does anyone have a well formatted standard of perfection that I can print and pin to the cage?

Any other advice for show a cream legbar?

Thanks!

If no one responds before later tonight I will try to PM you one :)

There was a discussion awhile back about CLs on eBay -- and I put in a LONG post about why not to buy from eBay. I can't find it now to PM the original poster - (and I have looked...I will put this in the other CL threads...too) --

Just saw some really nice photos on eBay of some really nice CLs and I bet that you COULD get good CLs on eBay -- and if the eBay seller happened to be geographically near you it could be an advantage.

so sorry for being so opinionated and closed minded. I have to say -- I got my first CLs from Craig's List and they happened to be my best. The last batch I got from Craig's List happened to be my worst CLs....but "you pays your money and you takes your chances..." (I also bought my very first chickens on Craig's List and one of them was the perfect chicken and one of the others was the sickest chicken in the state....so go figure)

I apologize to the person that I implied that nothing good can come from eBay -- I happened across this seller....

I think the photo shows a very nice hen---and the rooster has six points does he not - oh you of sharper eyes than mine...??

So -- Apology to eBay sellers, and to the poster who asked. If I could find my old post, I would PM you -- but I think now-and-then BYC posts do go to electronic dust...

You are right - you find some awful birds on eBay. You also find some good things if you look hard enough and ask the right questions. Our second best girl came from eBay eggs. She has a small crest but good cream color and a decent comb. Like with everything you just have to look closely at the pictures.

I love ebay for rare small things...but if it is something big, like a dining room table -- ahh CraigsList. I WISH eBay could sort by location so if you were looking for something big...you could know if you could get it for local pick up only. Once I sold an empty box (for a toy from the 1950's) to a collector on eBay who was happy to pay $70.

Didn't the movie 'men in black' say something to the effect that you can get anything on eBay. That is so true.....

I communicated with this seller through ebay and she was very nice. She has 2 pens of Cream Legbars and indicated one has a 'creamier' color.

I sent emails to any seller I was looking at and you can tell quite a lot based on their responses. It did reveal the ones that don't really know anything. I found that several sellers posted pictures of a really nice cream roo or hen and it turns out that was the exception not the rule. Also you have to ask specifically egg color and size.

Most of the time I concentrated on NPIP sellers with the theory that if they took the time to become NPIP that they probably know more about poultry in general and hopefully breeding them and that is mostly supported by the answers I got from my questions. Never did get any eggs through there because I have a cap on price and always seemed to get outbid by an eager beaver.

good guidelines....and NPIP has intrinsic advantages that the birds have been checked out.

I bought eggs of Ebay...one was a member of the Legbar club and a great person. The other one sold Blue Marans and I had gotten chicks from some who won eggs. I loved the chicks so got some on ebay. BUT, I really scoured the ads and asked questions before I bid. It was amazing how much they sellers did not know or disclose. Some I asked about standards and one reply was "rare chickens and you should be grateful I am selling the eggs at $90"... (it was a high price close to this)

I have rate of 18% to 44%. It's a gamble sometimes.

I'm glad you had a good experience! When I was first buying I stayed clear of anyone who said anything like, "they look like normal Cream Legbars".
