I have a fantastic cukoo orphington hen that is in with a cream legbars rooster. I love her eggs the consistency and the size are great. I put one of her eggs under a broody and I got to thinking that maybe with the cukoo the chick may be autosexing. Is cukoo different than barring? Will the chick be autosexing and if so how would I be able to tell? TIA for your thoughts and knowledge. I do expect that if I get a pullet out of this combo that she will lay green eggs.

O think it is the same, it at least that's how I understood it. Cuckoo is barring on fast feathering breeds and bard is barring on slow feathering breeds. But my understanding is yes a bard or cuckoo female with a non bard male will produce non bard females and bard males. Do please forgive me if I'm wrong though

Oh so with this combo it probably won't work out. The rooster is barred.:(

Sorry I don't have cream legbars so I didn't know they are also barred breeds I gotta I should have assumed that.

Yes a bard over bard should produce autosexing chicks but I would think it would be more like a Plymouth bard rock in that the markings can be similar and difficult to determine if not experienced. I'm not sure the cream legbars other color indications of if is just the barring that makes them autosexing

If both breeds are properly bard for thier breed (female with 1 bard gene, male with 2 bard genes) all offspring the males will show signs of double barring (ie the head spot) and females single barring. But if your male is not double barred than offspring would not be auto sexing they would be mixed with all females single bard and 50% male single bard 50% double bard

Would a barred rock be considered cukoo? I remember vaguely that they are not something about cukoo not being the same pattern. I have barred rocks and a cukoo orphington and I don't see a pattern difference.

Again i may be wrong but my understanding is barred and cuckoo are the same gene on different breeds. Whether it's barred or cuckoo is depended on the breed. Ie you have a cuckoo maran not a barred maran, but a barred rock not a cuckoo rock. I do have one of each of these 2 ants the cuckoo is more of a Chevron pattern on the individual feathers where the bard is more stripped
