So, we hatched some barnyard mix chickens. I am trying to determine sex of the chicks. They are about 2 1/2 weeks old. At one week old, I tested the feather sexing to determine that 2 could be roosters. Now, looking at these combs.. I'm thinking I could have two more roosters... (3rd image to compare what other black chicks look like)

Their daddy is an American Game Rooster, possible mamas are:
Silver Laced Wyandotte
Barred Rock
Black Sex Link
Ameraucana
Welsummer
Easter Egger
Buff Brahma
Blue Laced Wyandotte
**My guess would be one of the first 3**

That's true. I thought it was to determine the parents. No way to tell sex at this age. 6 weeks is a good starting point for that.

I was under the impression that we were trying to determine the parent birds. But yes, way too early for sexing

Well if you have guesses on mamas... That will work too. Just curious so I can determine how "accurate" feather sexing is.. is that more for purebred birds and not so much with the barnyard mix chicks? Here's a picture of my rooster.

Feather sexing only works when a variety is specifically breed for that, as with Amberlinks. Won't work with barnyard mixes or most breeds.
