Hey guys!

I have a little chick here that has some curled feet. So I splinted them. She just had a rough hatch but made it!!

I waited for her feathers to fluff and umbilical cord to dry up before I splinted them. But wanted to sort this out as quickly as possible. My concern is she can’t get her feet underneath her to stand and is on her tummy (as pictured).

I want to make sure I’m doing this correctly and want to make sure she is successful.

I’m worried I made the splints too large for her and that’s why she can’t stand. I tried to sort her out and stand her up. And she stayed that way but landed where she is at now!

Let me know what I can do to improve this situation!

If she's just out of the incubator, I'd put her back in for 24 hours. They can fix a lot of problems themselves with just rest.

If a couple days old, then that probably won't work.

We cut a thin piece of cardboard just slightly larger then the chick's foot spread out. Then took double-sided tape, put that on the cardboard, then planted the chick's foot to that. Then put a piece of Vetwrap over the top and tucked it in under the bottom. You don't want this too thick. It only took about 8 hours and the foot was fine.

I re did the foot braces and it’s going well. I do still have her in the incubator. And plan to keep her in there until tomorrow afternoon. But the new way I’ve done this has been much much more successful.
