Hi guys I'm stressing I don't know when to lock down bantam eggs I have 11. I'm a first time hatcher some people say lock down early as bantams others say not to 😭😭. Also they've been kept in carton in incubator as its a big bator and they were rolling about everywhere on the metal grid is it OK to stay in there to hatch? Last question how can I tell if they have internally pipped?

Hi there. You can actually quit turning any time after day 14 and not increase humidity until you see an external pip. If you wait a couple more days and increase humidity for hatching things should go fine. I recommend taking them out of the carton to hatch, I know people who have lost chicks doing that.
When you candle you can trace the air cell with a pencil and monitor the growth. You may not be able to see the internal pip, sometimes eggs are too dark or the eggs have pipped externally over night. Here's a chart showing an estimate of how far it should draw down

It's fine to stop turning them, but don't up humidity until day 18 or when you see your first external pip. You can leave them in the carton for hatching, that should be fine. You don't want them rollimg all around. Here are a couple pics of internal pips. CandlingImage18.jpg

Out in the incubator?

If it has any auto turner you’ll have to take that out before the hatch, most bators come with a fine screen that fits inside over the reservoirs, if not you’ll have to put a towel or something down. They just can’t hatch in the turners or they’ll get crushed . Good luck ! I just got six bantam eggs today!!
