Do chickens snore?

I got my first 3 chickens about 3 weeks ago. They are 6 months old and about to start laying soon. did a lot of research, having raised many other animals over my life. This included reading many of the post in BYC! My husband is my local techno-geek, and has installed remote cameras in both the chicken yard and the hen house itself. Now the question: do chickens snore? This morning we checked them out before the sun was up and they were all still sleeping. But we would SWEAR one of them was snoring!! It sounded like a human snore; not at all like a cold, cough or anything like that. I know the other animals snore, but the ones I am aware of are mammals. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!

quiet comical actually.
SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!!! Really?!

My mind is blown! I was expecting to read advice about some sort of respiratory illness or some other reason and I had never heard of that before.

Now I have an urge to sneak up on our coop and night.

Thanks, you learn something everyday and I learnt my first thing just after breakfast today!

We have a couple of hens that snore ourselves, rather entertaining with late night feedings.

oh, BTW.... WELCOME! :welcome

Welcome!

I have an orchestra in my coup. I get a mix of snoring and a soft singing as my babies sleep. Try 46 all at once. The first time I heard it going out at 2 am I started wide eyes thinking my chickens were growling and shrilling at me but they didn't stop.

I calmed down as it happened every other late night visit I made.

While it could still be some respiratory ailment, chickens do snore. I have heard them do this even during the day. As long as they are not showing any signs of respiratory issues and continue to seem healthy, then you can assume they do snore! LOL

Great to have you aboard and enjoy BYC!
