Do Ducks Have Night Vision???

I wanted to see if my ducks had pretty good night vision, but when I searched it up, the results varied. Any answers?
Also, random question that I was wondering, are sweet potato leaves harmful to ducks and/
It seems like my ducks can see some at night but I’m not sure how well. And sweet potatoes aren’t in the nightshade family so they could possibly be safe unlike other potatoes. I’m not sure though lol

I'd just do a search. If it's toxic to humans, most likely not good for ducks. But, that's not always the case either (like ducks shouldn't have onions).

My ducks seem to see very poorly at night. They get startled much easier, and are very easy to catch.

One time at night I was shooing one duck out of my way a little and she didn't see me, so I accidentally tapped her and we were both very surprised. That never would have happened during the day, when they are so aware and even alert me to what is happening.

It seems that ducks can see at night and can even see better at night than humans can, but their eyesight is not super sharp like it would be during the day. Maybe wild ducks have better vision? All I know is that ducks can see better than chickens at night and that they don't sleep at night like chickens do. 🤷‍♀️

That's very interesting! My ducks must have unusually bad night vision. I feel like I have better night/dusk vision than they do. When I give my ducks mealworms at dusk I have to put my hand right under their bills. Until they feel my hand touch their bill they behave like they don't even know something is happening and just stand there. Then they feel my hand and gobble! During the day they almost attack and trample me for mealworms! My ducks also go inside the barn at dusk and refuse to come out until morning, I hear other ducks like to stay outside at night. Maybe my ducks want to be inside for a reason?

But, my ducks are older, 6.5 and 7.5. And I'm curious about the domestic vs wild as well.

Yeah, it would be interesting to see if anyone has done studies of wild vs domestic ducks. I don't really know how well my ducks can see at night because most of the time that I'm out there a light of some kind is on. We have auto lights that kick on with movement and before that I used a headlamp if I couldn't see. The one time my duck decided to nest in a bean field, we had flashlights (and a dog) to find her.
My comments regarding a duck being able to see well at night were just things that I've read regarding duck's eyesight - no experience like what you've had.
