Do eggs change color over time?

My Noir Marans hen just layed her first egg (yay)! I thought Noir Marans were supposed to lay dark chocolate brown eggs but this one is very light brown. Any chance her eggs will darken as she continues to lay or is this the color they'll be forever? Thanks!

In my experience, egg color has diminished the further a hen gets into her laying cycle, but all sort of things can happen when a hen first starts laying. Wishing darker eggs your way. :fl

The reproductive system is still coming on line and working out it's kinks.. For Marans.. the 20th egg laid is supposed to represent their true color. Before that some may be lighter while others may be darker.. the "spray booth" is still priming essentially. I did get some light first eggs back when I was breeding FBCM, and they did darken!

Noir Marans are essentially black sex links some called dominant copper depending on source.. with the sire being Marans and the dames being barred Rocks.. the sire has more influence over egg color..

Hopefully they will darken up for you!
