I just got back from a farm market and they was sell baby chicks still have the fuzzy on then

. And he said there was black sex links.
so does anyone have a picture of a female chick or tell how to tell if is female ? it look like 4 to 7 days old

What kinds of egg n color n often and how often does they lay?

google black sex links or BSL on this site- you will get pictures.
The females are black with gold or red leaking through. My two are excellent egg layers, light brown eggs, and one of them went broody on me this summer - I like their personalities. They are fairly friendly and great foragers.

Yep here is a pic of my black sexlink Susan she never shuts up. but I get an egg a day and she is super sweet.

She is from Ideal and about to be crossed with my new Blue Wheaten Ameraucana Roo Charlie to get my own EEs

A black sexlink can also be black with white/yellow. You know a black sex link is female because the top of its head is solid black. If it were male, the top of its head would have a shock of white or yellow.

Here's one whose dad is a Buff Orpington

The first one hatched just the other day, but the second one is about 20 weeks now, and she is GORGEOUS!

None of my bsl's whose dad is a BO have grown up yet. Sorry. But i have 4 of them just hatched. So i'll be eager to see how they develop also. The one i have who is grown up is from a RIR father. I'm still trying to get a good picture of my older bsl, with the red traits from the rir. She doesn't like to hold still for a picture, so they always turn out blurry.

sunflowerenvy, my black sexlinks have barred rock mothers. I'm sure there are other breeds with similar genetics that can be used. I'm not sure what all breed fathers can be used, except for the ones i have - which is bo and rir. I'm sure there are more.

okay need to go back and talk to them again . the chicks was $1.00 a piece going tomorrow

My BSL Greta isn't as clearly differentiated as the photo of that pretty BSL Susan already posted. Greta's red feathers are more muted on her head and shoulders and then scatter into the black on her body, less like a line, just fading into the black.

She's bossy. She was the bottom of the pecking order when I had just 8 chickens, so when I added more, she let THEM know SHE was more important than THEY are. Or ever will be. She lays a nice light brown egg every day. She has mellowed out some in the past few months (only 11 months old herself) and is less apt to peck at lower ranking girls. She will make a bit of a run/dart at them, though - she just isn't as grump about it nowadays.

This one almost shows the irridescent blue on her back. But it goes all over her back and is really stunning.

She's so beautiful, and she's the only grown one i have. I am hoping to make many more. I just love them!
