They may be called different things in different places. Basically canned biscuit dough fried in hot oil and topped with sugar?
I used to make them all the time for my kids when they were little. I recently made them for my new husband and he loves them,
I usually coat them with powdered sugar or granulated sugar and cinammon mixed together.
I'm seeking ideas for other toppings. I would especially like to know how to thicken chocolate syrup to make chocolate covered donuts. I have a recipe for bavarian creme, add the chocolate topping and yummy.

i make them for the kids they love 'em! the layered biscuits are yummy too they get really crisp on the edges.

Yup! We cut the hole out of the middle, and fry both in ot veggie oil. Then we make a glaze from sugar, a spot of milk, and some vanilla. Bring it to a boil and you have your glaze. Dunk em in the glaze and eat! Everyone loves them!

(To make them with the hole in the middle I use a pop top, like a 2 liter screw top or off a regular soda/pop bottle, it's the perfect size!)

I haven't had these in almost 13 years....my neighbor in Florida use to make them but I didn't know how....now I do,oh so yummy!! I will be making asap!!!

ETA: I have been making Fried dough some call it Funnel cake and that taste pretty close to the doughnuts taste.

I just use any brand of biscuit dough; whatever is cheapest. Right now walmart has their brand of canned biscuits (10 to a can) on sale for a $1. I like the buttermilk better.
I cut mine in half before frying. Dunno why. Guess that's how I did it when the kids were little to make one can go further. Just get your oil good and hot in a skillet and drop the dough in. Let them get golden brown on one side (this only takes a few seconds), then flip them over and brown the other side. Drain on paper towels or a paper bag and cool slightly. I put the powdered sugar or the sugar/cinammon mixture in a ziplock bag and toss a few donuts in at a time. Shake to coat.
Gocrow, thanks for the glaze recipe.
