this is from my one year old buff orphington, charlotte. she is acting fine. eating and drinking fine. laying eggs. the color is concerning. I have not seen any of my other girls have this color poop. the last 3 days right before she goes to bed, she does this. I think during the day its normal, but not sure, I do not see this when cleaning the run and coop daily. is it possibly a cecal poop? If it was internal bleeding she would be acting ill wouldn't she? I have not feed them any blueberries or red cabbage lately either. thank you.

Looks like Cecal poop to me. It can vary in color from light to very dark.

Have you been feeding any different treats or does she have access to compost, wood ash or dark soil like peat moss?

I made them a homemade flock block that has molasses in it, so that must be it. I just thought of that. it has rained recently, maybe she ate dirt as well from the yard. thank you for the reply. I wanted to be reassured I guess.

Ah yes, Molasses would do it:)

Homemade flock block sounds yummy! I'm glad you figured it out.

@Wyorp Rock: I have a question. My one year old buff orphington, Charlotte, that had the black poops, now has had a few milky poops in the last 2 days. can i treat her for coccidosis and antibiotic at the same time until the fecal comes back? I am suspecting sallmonella or cocci.

We all know waiting can be detrimental.

My lily, her flock mate just died, I suspect of EYP or/and salphingitis. Antibiotic did not help at all. These girls are my best friends. she died in my arms.

I did take lily to UC Davis for a necropsy. waiting for results. I am sending fecal to them tomorrow, from Charlotte, but be at least 2 more days after that before I know anything. She is the only one with abnormal poop.

She's not acting sick, laying eggs still. Everyone else's poops are
good.

thank you

I don't know of any contraindications between Corid (Amprolium) and most antibiotics, but it's always a good idea to do a bit of research. What antibiotic are you using?

baytril 10%. corid did not work when they were 3 months old. I used endocox (toltrazuril) and that did work. BUT, this morning I went to collect a sample and there were no milky poops, just normal poops. I will send my vet a note this morning and see what she thinks about the two being used together. thank you

@Wyorp Rock I received the necropsy results from lily. She had Marek"s disease at age 1. and was vaccinated for it. can you direct me on what to do with my other 6 girls? 4 are 3 years and the other 2 are lily's flock mates. 1 year old. So disappointed.
I'm sorry to hear about the result.

I'm not sure what you mean on what to do with the other 6 girls? If they are active/eating/drinking, etc. I would not do anything and continue to care for them as always. They have been exposed to the virus, but they may never have any symptoms or become ill from it.

after doing lot of internet searching, I understand now. I thought about deep clean of the coop and run, but since they are all exposed and I do not know where it came from. Deep clean isnt going to help anything. I keep their living quarters clean anyways. I will continue the snuggles and the joy we bring each other. They are so fragile. Thanks for the reply. So far everyone else is acting fine.
