This morning I decided to let her have some supervised time outside with the flock (she's the 3rd highest ranked hen, so there wasn't much trouble there). The head rooster, Larry the one-eyed silkie, was extremely excited to see her. So much so he had to be locked in the coop since Margo was not a fan of the enthusiastic dances in her face. Her appetite skyrocketed with the flock and has led me to believe her lack of eating has had to do with loneliness.
I let her free-range until she attempted to dust bathe and I brought her back inside. Pretty much threw the equivalent of a chicken tantrum...growling and screeching, but she calmed down after a few minutes.
I had her in there with one of her silkie flock mates for a couple hours while I was working on the pen and it went wonderfully! (that is until she noticed the neighbor's horse. If was her first time seeing one and she was not pleased--she was constantly growling at it) Definitely going to let her have outside time in the pen on good weather days when I don't work night shifts. Turns out her appetite issues were social relatedCan't help but get tickled about her tantrum. She's feeling better isn't she!
Oh my goodness, you surely don't want to deal with dust bathing just yet. Been there done that, it's the first thing they seem to want to do when they encounter a nice dusting areas. Oh, what a cakey mess of ointment and dirt it is to try to clean out of a wound.
I know she wants to bath, she's got all those pin feathers coming in, some sunshine, friends...What more could a little hen want!
It's good that she's able to get outside, maybe her friends (minus One-Eyed Larry) can visit her in her space for some treats and drinks
Poor Larry![]()
That's looking really good!Much to Margo's (very loud) dismay it was a rainy day so no outside time. Although it looks like she'll be able to return to the flock soon! The old scab has fallen off and the wound is looking wonderful, more like a giant scrape now. Only one more dose of medicine too

Such wonderful news! I'm so happy that Margo has recovered and is now back with her flock. With her "wound" nothing more than a pinprick scab and covered by fresh feathers, Margo has officially returned to the flock today
First thing Larry did was to make sure those eggs are fertile and promptly catch up on the 4 weeks of wing dances that she missed lol
